The Western Digital WD Purple 4TB surveillance hard drive is designed specifically for the continuous recording demands of compatible NVR and DVR security systems. Unlike a general-purpose desktop drive, WD Purple is engineered for write-intensive, always-on video workloads and the temperature and vibration conditions commonly found inside surveillance recorders. It is a practical storage option for expanding a compatible recorder or replacing an ageing surveillance drive.

The WD44PURZ provides 4 TB of capacity in a standard 3.5-inch SATA form factor. Its SATA 6 Gb/s interface and transfer speeds of up to 175 MB/s support reliable recording and playback. Conventional magnetic recording technology and a 128 MB cache are matched to sustained surveillance workloads rather than occasional desktop use.

Western Digital AllFrame firmware helps reduce video frame loss and improve playback in compatible security systems. The drive supports systems with up to 64 HD cameras and up to 16 drive bays, making it suitable for both smaller installations and higher-channel recorders. A workload rating of up to 180 TB per year reflects its intended use in mainstream surveillance environments.
